The Green Room Community Theatre announces its 27th Season

June 4, 2013

The 2013-2014 Season celebrates The Green Room Community Theatre’s 27th year with all new shows including musicals, mysteries and madcap comedies.  All productions will be in the Old Post Office Playhouse on the main stage in the McCreary Theatre or in the smaller, more intimate Black Box Theatre.  The Playhouse is located in historic downtown Newton at 10 South Main Ave.

This season features six mainstage productions and opens with the blockbuster hit “Hairspray,” Sept. 6 – 22.  Return to the 60’s with some great music and high energy fun from this winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical.  Next, be ready for mystery and intrigue with Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” playing Oct.  4 – 13.

Our family holiday show is “Peter Pan,” the musical based on James M. Barrie’s classic childhood story.  Come fly with us to Never Land as we make use of our new facility in a way you’ve never seen before. This holiday special will play for four weekends from Nov. 22 – Dec. 15.  Our all-youth production is the musical “Miss Nelson Is Missing,” based on the children’s book by Harry Allard.  Playing March 7 – 16, 2014, this show is fun for the whole family.

May 2 - 18, 2014, we return to Sweetgum, Texas, for the comedy “Rex’s Exes,” a sequel to this season’s Red Velvet Cake War, where the Verdeen’s are teetering on the brink of disaster once again.  The season ends with the musical “Forever Plaid” playing June 6 – 22, 2014.  Featuring great hits from the 1950’s and delightful banter amongst the four male singers, this show makes for a fun-filled evening of entertainment.

Two great shows will be presented in our Black Box Theatre this season.  “The Smell of the Kill” (Oct. 31 - Nov. 10) is a comedy featuring three women, each unhappy in their marriage, but for different reasons.  How they resolve their problems makes for some nice, mean fun.  Celebrate the Valentine season with “Almost, Maine” (Feb. 6 – 16, 2014) where characters explore love and loss in a remote, mythical place called Almost, Maine.

This season also includes our annual Shakespeare in the Park production.  This year, we will present “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Southside Park in Newton in four free performances – Aug. 16 – 24.

The Green Bean Players will delight our young-at-heart audiences with “Carolina Spook Tales” (Oct. 25 – 26) and “Rumplestiltskin” (Feb. 21 – 22, 2014).  Rounding out the season are our second stage youth productions: “Children for Dinner, a Multicultural Adventure” (March 21 – 30, 2014) and “The Frog Prince” (April 4 – 13, 2014).

The Green Room offers two season ticket options to suit your needs: a “6 punch” ticket – available for $65 for Adults and $55 for Seniors (60+) and Students – as well as an “8 punch” ticket  – $85 for Adults, $75 for Seniors and Students).

The option is specifically designed for our season tickets holders who don’t want to miss any of the wonderful shows offered on both the mainstage and in the Black Box Theatre.

Our flexible season tickets allow you a total of six or eight admissions to any of our shows.  You can use one punch per show or bring friends and use multiple punches per show - you decide how you want to use your ticket.

Individual ticket prices for the 2013-2014 season will be $14 for Adults, $12 for Seniors/Students, and $8 for Youth 12 and under.  For more information, check our website, www.the-green-room.org or call 828-464-6583.
