Gildan cuts 86 jobs in Newton

July 25, 2012

Fifteen months after Gildan Activewear Inc. bought GoldToeMoretz, the company is eliminating 86 jobs in Newton.

Workers at Gildan's Newton sock manufacturing facility learned last week that the company plans to close the production plant in 60 days, said Genevieve Gosselin, director of corporate communications for Gildan.

"Manufacturing operations will end by the end of September," she told The O-N-E. "Like any tough decision, this was a difficult one. It was necessary due to the low level of production which was below economic levels."

Comment: 1183 knowing that the former owner, Johnny Moretz, of Newton, is going to be able to enjoy a safe, comfortable retirment onthe MILLIONS he made when he sold the family business to a bunch of Humus eatin' Turks who took a profit, moved the machinery to CHINA and closed the business and put 86 hard working citizens of Newton ont he welfare lines! Thanks JOHNNY! But what really torks my jaw, was the lack of effort or coercion or screaming or whatever resistance was NOT DISPAYED by the CURRENT or the FORMER Regime at the Newton City HALL when these plans we first identified some time in the past year or so! I know 'cause I commented on it then in this venue!

ALL in ALL, its a sad day for Newton, on many levels!

When is the NEXT election, I sure would like to get my "Brain Wrapped Around" that?
