Geocaching in Catawba County

Modern-day treasure hunters are sweeping across Catawba County, looking for items ranging from earrings and gift cards to tiny pieces of paper where they add their names to a list.

Geocaching is a type of digital scavenger hunt where six million geocachers worldwide use GPS coordinates to search for items hidden by other members and volunteers. According to the official website, geocaching.com, there are more than two million active geocaches around the world today.
