Game day gate fees going up

July 25, 2012

Middle school football fans beware, the game day prices are going up.

This season football fans will see a $1 gate increase due to sport expenses. The expense is an unavoidable cost on helmets that all schools in the county have to make in order to keep all football student athletes safe following state standards and this is at the expense of the fans, according to school system officials.

Catawba County School Board and Cheryl Frye, CCS secondary education director, discussed budget issues happening in the area middle schools. The budget issue surrounds the school’s football programs and would cause a one dollar gate fee increase at football games, raising prices from $3 to $4.

To read more of this story, pick up the weekend print edition of Catawba County's community newspaper, The Observer News Enterprise, at newsstands throughout the county.
