FRIDAY FOOTBALL: Maiden wins to finish second

Maiden the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference runner-up spot with an impressive victory over Draughn, 31-7.

Will Jenkins led the Blue Devils with 214 yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns. On defense he collected an interception. Quarterback Matt Johnson rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries.

Draughn got on the board first when quarterback Keith Loomis connected with Alex McGee for a 25-yard touchdown.

Maiden trailed for 10 seconds.

On the ensuing kick-off Jose Campos raced 99 yards for a touchdown.

Maiden held the Wildcats scoreless the rest of the way, and collected three turnovers, including an interception by Campos and fumble recovery by Austin Wright.

Jenkins scored a second quarter touchdown on a 56-yard run that gave Maiden a 14-7 lead. Ian Oliver's 42-yard field goal gave the Blue Devils a 17-7 lead.

The Blue Devils (7-4, 6-1) cruised in the second half and picked up the CVAC's second place finish. Maiden and high schools throughout the county find out their playoff placements Saturday.

Draughn (8-3, 5-2) finishes third in the CVAC.
