The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team gave up six runs on nine hits and committed five errors in a 6-5 loss to Brunswick Community College.

The Bucs (20-6, 10-2), who entered this week ranked fourth in the latest National Junior College Athletic Assocation (NCJAA) poll, dropped just their second Carolinas-Virginia conference game of the season.

No. 15 Brunswick (20-6, 12-2) pulled ahead 2-0 after the first inning, but quickly gave up three runs in the third inning and one each in the fourth and sixth, allowing CVCC to take a 5-2 advantage.

However, a four-run seventh inning by Brunswick propelled it into the lead for good. The inning included a three-run homer by freshman outfielder Jimmy Boyd.

Sophomore outfielder Zech Wiggs led CVCC with two hits, two RBIs and one run scored, while freshman shortstop Kurt Stabesefski added two hits, one RBI and one run scored.

CVCC pitcher Robert Whaley suffered the loss on the mound. He went 6.2 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
