Former mayor to serve schools

A familiar face in the Newton community will serve the local school system for at least the next 17 months.

The Newton-Conover City Schools Board of Education appointed former Newton mayor Bob Mullinax to serve the remainder of Kyle Drum's unexpired term.

Drum left the board at the end of May to move to Davie County for his job.
