A former Claremont mayor is recovering Tuesday after being struck by a car while walking across the street.
Glenn Morrison was walking across Depot Street near the intersection of Frazier Drive in Claremont to check his mailbox Monday evening when he was struck by an oncoming car, said Claremont Police Department Capt. Gary Bost.
The driver, Larry Little, told police he didn't see Morrison in time to stop his Saturn sedan. Bost said Little hit his brakes to avoid the collision, but the brakes locked up, making it impossible to avoid the crash. Additional information about Little was unavailable.
Morrison was struck by the car's front right corner. He dislocated his shoulder from the collision and was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center with minor injuries, Bost said.
Little's Saturn sustained about $500 to $1,000 in damage from the crash.
Morrison later told police he didn't see the car coming when he crossed the street. No charges were filed in the incident.
No other injuries were reported, and no other cars were involved in the incident.
