FOOTBALL ROUND-UP: Hickory beats St. Stephens

Matt Williams return to St. Stephens High School was a successful one.

The sophomore quarterback, who spent last season with the Indians, threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Reid, which helped Hickory defeat St. Stephens 10-0 on Friday.

The Red Tornadoes (6-4, 3-2) added a 33-yard field goal from Michael Bradshaw in the victory.

St. Stephens drops to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in Northwestern 3A/4A play.

Bandys 33, West Caldwell 0

Hunter Lackey caught a pair of touchdown passes and also recorded a defensive touchdown to lead the Trojans to the shutout victory Friday in Lenoir.

Lackey intercepted East Burke quarterback Jacob Young late in the first quarter and returned the pick 50 yards for a touchdown.

In the second quarter, Lackey added both of his touchdown catches.

He scored on a 23-yard pass and catch from quarterback Anthony Toscano for his first score of the quarter.

Less than three minutes later, Lackey caught another touchdown pass from 35 yards out.

Trojan defender Jesse Mayhew also made a defensive touchdown in the Bandys victory by recovering an East Burke fumble in the end zone.

Bandys senior running back Devan Davis added a touchdown on the ground from six yards out to complete the final tally.
