The Fred T. Foard Tigers are off to a good start. Foard won last weekâ€™s Freedom Soccer Invitational, and it stayed unbeaten Monday with a 3-2 overtime win at home over Shelby Crest.
â€śItâ€™s matches like these that remind the players not to let their guards down,â€ť Foard coach Scottie Goforth said.
Foardâ€™s Kenan Ruffner scored the game-winning goal on a header with less than 1 minute left in the second overtime period.
The Tigers led 2-0 at halftime after goals from Brody Ruffner and Jason Smith. Crest, however, forced overtime with two second-half goals by Jason Peeler. Goforth said the Tigersâ€™ play in the first half was more indicative of their potential this season.
Foard is 3-0-1 after Mondayâ€™s win, and it plays Wednesday at East Burke.
