Foard Keeps On Rolling

The Fred T. Foard Tigers are off to a good start. Foard won last week’s Freedom Soccer Invitational, and it stayed unbeaten Monday with a 3-2 overtime win at home over Shelby Crest.

“It’s matches like these that remind the players not to let their guards down,” Foard coach Scottie Goforth said.

Foard’s Kenan Ruffner scored the game-winning goal on a header with less than 1 minute left in the second overtime period.

The Tigers led 2-0 at halftime after goals from Brody Ruffner and Jason Smith. Crest, however, forced overtime with two second-half goals by Jason Peeler. Goforth said the Tigers’ play in the first half was more indicative of their potential this season.

Foard is 3-0-1 after Monday’s win, and it plays Wednesday at East Burke.

“As far as being unbeaten, that just puts a big target on our backs night after night,” Goforth said.
