Flash Watch Issued

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for portions of the Piedmont and western North Carolina effective until 10 p.m. Thursday. In western North Carolina, Alexander, Catawba, east Polk and greater Rutherford. In the Piedmont, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Davie, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg and Rowan.

Heavy rain will accompany thunderstorms this afternoon. and flooding may occur.

Places that experienced heavy rainfall and flooding this morning will be especially vulnerable to flooding later today. This flooding could last into the early evening hours.

A flash flood watch means conditions could develop leading to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a dangerous situation, and you should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if flash flood warnings are issued.
