Fire destroys restaurant kitchen

December 3, 2010

Fire destroyed the kitchen of a Sherrills Ford restaurant Friday.

Firefighters responded to Lineberger's Steakhouse located on N.C. 150 East, after an employee driving by the building reported a blaze.

Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire and Rescue Capt. Richard Harris said no one was in the building at the time of the fire, and emergency workers forced entry into the restaurant to fight the blaze.

About 30-45 firefighters from Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire and Rescue, Denver Fire Department, Pumpkin Center Volunteer Fire Department and Bandys Fire Department responded to the fire. They had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, Harris said.

The restaurant's kitchen doors remained closed during the fire, minimizing smoke and fire damage in the rest of the building. The dining room received some smoke damage, Harris said.

Firefighters cleared the scene Friday shortly after 4 p.m.

Lineberger's Steakhouse usually opens for business at 5 p.m. Because of fire damage, however, Harris said "it will be some time" before the restaurant reopens.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
