Fire destroys pick-up

April 23, 2013

A pick-up truck parked in the parking lot of Newton Family Physicians at 767 West First Street, Newton burned and damaged two other passenger cars, Tuesday morning shortly after 10 a.m.
No one was injured.

A black 1985 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up truck, driven by Willie Mae Wilson, caught fire due to an excessive build-up of oil and debris on the motor.

Visitors noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and alerted the staff of the medical office who dialed 9-1-1 and reported the fire.

The two vehicles parked beside the pick-up were damaged. A 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Ashley Wallace, was damaged on the roof and passenger side by the fire. A 2002 Ford Escape escaped with minimal damage to the exterior mirror and paint. Both the Chrysler and Ford were driveable. The Chevrolet was a total loss.
