Fire destroys Maiden home

October 3, 2011

A Maiden home was destroyed early Sunday morning after a fire ripped through a home on Withers Road.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire that started at about 2:51 a.m. Sunday, but the home is a “total loss,” said Catawba County Fire Investigator David Pruitt.

“It was a working fire coming through the roof when firemen arrived on the scene,” Pruitt said.

There was no one inside the residence at the time of the fire, and the residents were out of town, Pruitt said.

Maiden Fire Department responded to the blaze and was assisted by Bandys Fire Department.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to control the blaze.

Officials say a neighbor called 9-1-1 after seeing flames going through the roof of the home.

Let me see here. Both Maiden and Bandys have fully functional and well trained VOLUNTEER Fire Departmetns that arrived at 3 am and knocked down a fire in less than 15 minutes! BRAVO!

Now somebody explain why Newton has all but destroyed its once proud and very effective volunteer system for the expensive under utilised system put in place by the current regime?
