An alert Catawba County EMS crew noticed a house on fire at 4865 N.C. 10 east, shortly after 6 a.m., Tuesday morning, and called for assistance.

Fire crews from Catawba, Bandys, Claremont, Oxford and Newton battled the blaze for 45 minutes before bringing it under control.

The story and a half residence was fully involved when the first fire apparatus arrived.

“Fire was already coming out the windows,” Catawba Fire Chief Donald Robinson said. “I immediately called for mutual aid as there was a truck in the garage and we thought the house was occupied.”
