EASTER CLASSIC: Pairings for 23rd event released

The Catawba County Easter Baseball Classic enters its 23rd year on Monday at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

The tournament, which has become a yearly tradition amongst Catawba County prep baseball teams, starts this Monday and continues through Wednesday.

This year's participating teams include Bunker Hill, St. Stephens, Hickory, West Caldwell, Maiden, South Iredell, Fred T. Foard and Newton-Conover.

Hickory is the defending Easter Classic champion, having defeated Maiden 12-1 in last year's final.

Game times for the first two days on Monday and Tuesday are 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday's third-place game takes place at 4:30 p.m., while the championship contest follows at 7:30 p.m.

Admission for kids age 12 and under is $2 and admission for everyone else is $5. No passes will be accepted for this tournament.

No. 2 St. Stephens (6-3) vs. No. 7 Fred T. Foard (5-6), 12 p.m.
No. 3 Hickory (7-4) vs. No. 6 South Iredell (5-5), 2:30 p.m.
No. 1 Bunker Hill (8-3) vs. No. 8 Newton-Conover (1-9), 5 p.m.
No. 4 West Caldwell (6-4) vs. No. 5 Maiden (5-4), 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday's games
St. Stephens-Foard loser vs. Hickory-South Iredell loser, 12 p.m.
Bunker Hill-Newton-Conover loser vs. West Caldwell-Maiden loser, 2:30 p.m.
St. Stephens-Foard winner vs. Hickory-South Iredell winner, 5 p.m.
Bunker Hill-Newton-Conover winner vs. West Caldwell-Maiden winner, 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday's games
Third-place game, 4:30 p.m.
Championship game, 7:30 p.m.
