Early voting limited to one site

July 2, 2012

Early voting in the primary run-off is underway, but citizens can only cast ballots at one location before the July 17 run-off election day.

Board of elections officials say that will also be the case when early voting arrives for November's general election.

"Right now, as far as the budget goes, it is only going to be at Newton," Catawba County Board of Elections Director Larry Brewer said of the county's lone one-stop voting location, the Catawba County Library's main branch in Newton.

In elections past, a second early voting site was also operated in Hickory, at the Highland Recreation Center. Brewer said that unless any grant funds are available, that second site will not be open during neither the primary run-off nor early voting for the general election starting Oct. 18.
