Early-voter turnout down — so far

April 27, 2012

While it may seem like there’s more traffic at the polls this year, elections officials say overall early voting numbers are down compared to 2008.

More than 2,000 Catawba County residents have already cast their ballots for early voting for primary races — numbers Elections Director Larry Brewer says are down compared to the last presidential election.

“It’s a little low, and of course, we don’t have the site in Hickory,” Brewer said.

Catawba County has one early voting location open to residents this year, compared to two locations in recent elections and four locations during the last presidential election in 2008.
