Drugs found in dog food bag

October 3, 2011

Police arrested a Lake Toxaway man near Newton on Saturday for selling marijuana out of a bag of dog food in his car.

Conover police stopped Dylan Forest Hampton, 25, of 98 Flat Ridge Road in Lake Toxaway, on Saturday on charges of reckless and careless driving.

After a search of Hampton’s 2001 Dodge Ram Van, Newton authorities found 232.1 grams of marijuana inside a bag of dog food in the vehicle, said Newton Police Maj. Kevin Yarborough.

“He was carrying dope for sale and delivery out of his car,” Yarborough said.

Hampton’s dog, which appeared to be a pit bull, was in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Yarborough said animal control held the animal.

Newton police charged Hampton with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and maintaining a vehicle for use or sale of a controlled substance.

Conover police, which initially stopped the driver, charged Hampton with driving while impaired and reckless driving.
