Draughn Takes Down Bandys

The Draughn Wildcats defeated the Trojans 5-1 and improved to 5-2-1 in the Catawba Valley 2-A. The four-goal loss dropped the Trojans to 4-4-0 in conference play.

Thomas Russell scored back-to-back goals in the 39th and 43rd minutes to seal the win for Draughn. The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Toua Xiong, but Bandys responded a minute later with its lone goal by Mario Ramirez. Bobby Wicks got the assist.
Draughn's Aaron Yang broke the tie in the 36th minute, and Thomas Russell scored back-to-back goals to give Draughn a three-goal lead. Jacob Crisp scored the Wildcats' final goal in the 45th minute.

NEWTON-CONOVER 2, MAIDEN 0
Christian Marinero scored the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute Monday at Newton-Conover to give the Red Devils their fourth conference win of the season.

Newton-Conover improved to 4-4 against the CVAC, and Maiden dropped to 3-4.

Eli Cordes scored an insurance goal in the 68th minute for the Red Devils. Newton-Conover outshot Maiden 12-5, while Red Devils goalkeeper Hunter Nestor had four saves.

Austin Oliver had six saves for Maiden.

ST. STEPHENS 1, WATAUGA 0
Ben Watson scored the lone goal for the Indians in a conference match at Watauga, and Trey Lewis earned the assist. Indian goalkeeper Jon Holloway earned the shutout Monday.

St. Stephens improved to 2-4-0 against teams in the Northwestern 3-A/4-A. The Indians' next match is Wednesday at South Caldwell.

Volleyball
ST. STEPHENS 3, MAIDEN 2
St. Stephens rallied from an 0-2 deficit to beat Maiden by one Monday in a non-conference match at Maiden. The Indians won the match 21-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-12, 15-11.

Nicole Hardy led St. Stephens with 14 kills and 22 digs. Paige Heeke finished with 13 kills and 28 digs, Taylor Cummins had a team-high 54 digs, and Abby Foster had a team-high 53 assists and contributed 10 digs.

NORTH LINCOLN 3, BUNKER HILL 0
Bunker Hill's Krissy Edwards had a team-high 35 assists in a non-conference loss Monday to North Lincoln. North Lincoln beat Bunker Hill 25-12, 25-12, 25-20 at home.

Sarah Brown had a team-high eight kills for Bunker Hill, and Kathy Kinzer had three kills and two aces.

Bunker Hill plays at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at West Caldwell.
