Does Catawba County have a gang problem?

October 5, 2010

Catawba County will have a new sheriff after the Nov. 2 election, and two candidates think they have the qualifications to keep county residents safe, despite a tough economy.
Candidates for Catawba County sheriff Doris Kirby and Coy Reid participated in a question-and-answer political forum Monday at Maiden High School. Each candidate was given two questions to answer. The questions dealt with specific issues, which the new sheriff will encounter after election.

These questions included:

Is there a problem with gang activity in Catawba County, and if so, how to you propose to deal with it?

How do you propose to maintain adequate patrol presence throughout the county amid the budget squeeze?
