At the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year, Sigmon was announced as the school's Teacher of the Year. To choose the Teacher of the Year, the school asks for nominees from faculty and staff. Once nominees are gathered the staff members vote on the candidates. Sigmon was announced the winner in the fall of 2012 and received a Teacher of the Year plaque.
