A proposal from the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has residents on edge as they await a vote from Catawba County Commissioners that may determine the future of the Startown community.

The 1764 Business Park proposal includes the rezoning of a 170 acre land area between Startown and Robinwood roads that was formerly used as a dairy farm. The agreement, if approved by the County Commissioners next week, would offer the opportunity for the county to purchase the land within the next seven years and develop it for commercial uses, which could include light manufacturing.
