Delmarva pulls, stays ahead of HIckory for 8-5 win

SALISBURY, Md. — Delmarva scored eight runs in the first three innings of Tuesday's game and held off a comeback by Hickory to come away with the 8-5 South Atlantic League victory.

Nick Delmonico and Wynston Sawyer led the Shorebirds (9-16 in the second half, 37-57 overall) with two RBIs each. Glynn Davis, Michael Ohlman and Brenden Webb also drove in an RBI each for Delmarva.

Catcher Jorge Alfaro and designated hitter Alejandro Selen both drove in a pair of RBIs to pace Hickory (15-11 in the second half, 51-44 overall).

Delmarva pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez picked up the win, allowing three hits, two runs and struck out three in five innings pitched.

'Dads pitcher Nick Martinez fell to 5-4 on the season, giving up 10 hits eight runs (all earned) and struck out two Shorebirds batters.

The Crawdads take a day off Wednesday before starting the first of eight-straight home games.

Hickory faces Lakewood in a four-game series starting Thursday before welcoming the Shorebirds to L.P. Frans Stadium on Monday for another four-game series. Thursday's game time is set for 7 p.m.
