Dear editor: Beatty works for constituents

May 7, 2012

Dear editor:

As a native of Catawba County, I would like to voice my support for Barbara Beatty for Catawba County Commissioner. Barbara Beatty has worked tirelessly for the citizens of Catawba County. She provides great constitutent service and works to find solutions to all citizens concerns-large and small.

She has served on many national, state, and local boards including the N.C. Public Health Accrediation Board, Catawba Valley Medical Center, N.C. Association of County Commissioners Taxation & Finance Board, Transportation RPO Chair and MPO, the Greater Hickory Classic Advisory Board, Public Health, Mental Health and the Social Services Boards.

She is a life-long conservative Republican who has received the Republican Spirit Award. She has served as Secretary of the Catawba County Republican Party and President of the Catawba County Republican Womens Club. She has received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award which is the highest honor North Carolina bestows on a citizen for outstanding public service, Barbara Beatty has made a significant impact on the Catawba County Board of Commissioners by spearheading the School Health Parternship that added 13 nurses making the ratio 1-1057 instead of 1-2032. Barbara is the only elected official to serve on the FERC Relicensing Committee and help leverage for a signal at Oxford Dam for the safety of the park visitors. This was done before the agreement had even been signed. She supported allowing no water transfer for the IBT out of the Catawba River and by doing so she made sure Catawba County Citizens are able to continue to enjoy Lake Hickory. She advocated on behalf of the emergency response teams which led to 8-minute response times for better service for citizens. She supported transportation in Catawba County by working to improve signaling and she organized N.C. 16 businesses and citizens to discuss changes to transporation patterns. Barbara advocated on behalf of the Food and sustaniability program to keep farmers farming and find new opportunties to market agricultural products.

Therefore, I urge you to support Barbara Beatty for Catawba County Commissioner. She is a good steward of the public money and is not scared to cut back when it is needed to avoid property tax increases.
