CVMC expands, updates for future

October 4, 2010

Catawba Valley Medical Center continues to grow and adapt.
CVMC President and CEO J. Anthony Rose presented Monday to the Catawba County Board of Commissioners an update about the hospital's continuing construction on a multi-million dollar facility expansion and renovation.
The project will be completed in four phases and includes more than 88,000 square feet in new construction and more than 19,000 square feet in renovated space.
Phase I is an expansion and renovation to the hospital's operating rooms. The hospital will have 12 new operating rooms, which almost double the size of the facility's existing rooms.
The additional space allows the inclusion of larger equipment and more space for nurses and surgeons.
"The (new operating room) had every piece of equipment it could possibly have, and there was plenty of room," Rose said.
The first new operating room is expected to open in about two weeks.
Phase II includes additions to the hospital's central energy plant and is scheduled to be completed in early 2011.
