The Lady Trojans volleyball team took out three years of frustration on the visiting Randleman Lady Tigers on Thursday.
Bandys, who had lost three straight years in the third round of the 2A playoffs, made sure it wouldn't happen four years in a row, topping Randleman in impressive fashion, 25-10, 25-9, 25-10, in Catawba.
"We've talked about the third round always shutting us down," said Bandys coach Randi Keith. "I think they just broke the curse. They really came in, made a statement and showed what they've got."
Taking an early 9-2 lead on a combined five kills and a block by Jesse Story and Chelsey Queen, the Lady Trojans (18-3) forced a Randleman (15-7) timeout.
After the short break, Queen and Story continued to lead Bandys, eventually helping them take a 1-0 lead in the match. The two combined for eight kills and two blocks in the first game.
"In the last two games, we've been improving," Story said. "Ever since the playoffs started, we've improved. We're getting more used to each other. The more you play with someone, you know where they are going to be and what to expect."
Carrying momentum into game two, the Trojans took a 10-1 lead, including five points during Kylie Norman’s serve. She had two aces and 30 assists.
"We were moving pretty fast today with our serves," Keith said. "They've been on target. I think we are getting a lot more confidence in covering, in serving and in themselves. The last few games, they've been improving and moving better."
After cruising to the game two victory, Bandys once again made an impressive statement to finish the match, holding the Lady Tigers to only 10 points in game three.
The Trojans await North Surry in the fourth round on Saturday.
"If anyone could have done it, this was the team to do it," Keith said of her team's playoff run. "They've given everything they had. A lot of these young ladies have been playing since they were 8 years old. They've been working towards this goal for many years together. I really hope to see us go a good ways. I know we have the ability, the heart and work ethic. This is a really big achievement for them."View more articles in:
