CROSS-COUNTRY: County runners solid at states

A pair of Catawba County boys runners finished in the top 10 during Saturday's North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 2A and 3A Cross-Country meets at Beeson Park in Kernersville.

In the 2A meet, Maiden sophomore Corbin Boyles finished with a time of 16:28.61, just under 14 seconds better than his time in the same event last year of 16:46.59.

Boyles also equaled his fifth-place finish in the meet from a season ago.

Fred T. Foard's Broderick Bauguess also had a solid finish in the boys 3A meet, coming in ninth place with a time of 16:10.93.

Bauguess bested his 20th place finishing time from last year by 54 seconds (16:55.70).

The 3A West Regional champion Fred T. Foard girls cross-country team had a solid performance in their meet on Saturday, led by a 17th place finishing Kaitlyn Rayfield.

The Lady Tigers finished eighth in the final team standings with 258 points on the efforts of Rayfield and performances from Beth Robinson (69th), Courtney Hull (76th), Heidi Robinson (83rd), Taylor Whisenant (92nd), Maggie Marshall (97th) and Jian Hilton (112nd).
