CRIME NEWS: Claremont woman caught in theft

October 31, 2011

A fellow customer caught a Claremont woman stealing basic hygiene and consumer items at the local Dollar General store on Friday night.

Authorities say Jamie Sartin, 34, of 4243 Jennifer Lane in Claremont, was shopping at the Dollar General on Centennial Boulevard at about 8:50 p.m. Friday when a customer saw her trying to steal several items.

The customer alerted store officials, who found Sartin trying to steal deodorant, toothpaste, oil candles and several other items from the store.

Claremont Police were called and cops charged Sartin with concealment of goods.

Highway thieves steal equipment
Thieves stole about $5,000 in road maintenance equipment this weekend from a construction project on Interstate 40.

Claremont police say unidentified suspects stole a rock drill and an air compressor from a highway paving project near Exit 135 on I-40 on Friday night or Saturday morning.

The equipment belonged to contractor Curtin Trucking and Drainage Company Inc., of Charlotte.

Authorities ask anyone with information on the larceny to contact the Claremont Police Department at 828-495-9295.
