Crawdads Take Half Step Back

August 13, 2010

Charleston catcher J.R. Murphy enjoyed his Friday night in Hickory. Murphy hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in the third and fourth innings to propel Charleston to an 18-4 win over the Crawdads. Murphy finished Friday with three hits and nine RBIs.

The loss puts the Crawdads a game behind Lakewood in the race for the second-half pennant in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League. Charleston and Hickory play Game 3 at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Hickory pitcher Miguel De Los Santos gave up both of Murphy’s home runs Friday. De Los Santos struck out 10 in four innings and issued only two walks.

Hickory scored two runs in both the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings. Jared Bolden and Yefry Castillo both had two hits in the loss.
Castillo, Leonel De Los Santos and Ed Koncel each had one RBI.
