The Hickory Crawdads finished a four-game sweep of the Savannah Sand Gnats on Sunday with a 1-0 rain-shortened victory in South Atlantic League play.
The lone run plated came in the top of the third when Hanser Alberto lined out to pitcher Michael Fulmer. Combined with throwing errors by Fulmer and center fielder Tillman Pugh, Christopher Grayson came across home plate from second base.
Hickory pitcher Victor Payano improved to 2-0 on the season. He allowed one hit, walked a pair and struck out three in his five scoreless innings.
With the 'Dads win, Bill Richardson notched his 166th win as Hickory manager, which is the most all-time in team history.
Richardson passed Tony Beasley, who managed the team during the 2002-03 seasons and compiled a record of 165-110. Richardson's career managerial record now stands as 166-127 in three seasons.
The Crawdads take Monday off before returning home for the first of a four-game series on Tuesday against Greensboro. Game time is set for 6 p.m.View more articles in:
