April 5, 2013

A two-RBI single in the top of the eighth inning by Cody Keefer allowed the Greensboro Grasshoppers to spoil the season opener for the Hickory Crawdads with a 4-2 victory on Friday.

Lewis Brinson led Hickory (0-1) with three hits, including an 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the second inning that plated ‘Dads designated hitter Jordan Akins.

Starting pitcher C.J. Edwards had a solid outing for Hickory, allowing two hits, one walk and one unearned run in five innings. He struck out the four of the first six batters he faced.

Yeison Hernandez and Ross Wilson also tallied an RBI single each for the Grasshoppers (1-0).

Hickory continues its opening series with Greensboro through Sunday.
