Crawdads crush Intimidators, grow division lead

Leading 1-0 late in their game Tuesday, the Hickory Crawdads scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull away from the Kannapolis Intimidators, winning on the road, 7-1.

With the victory, the Crawdads' lead in the Northern Division grows to 1.5 games over the Intimidators.

In his first game this season since joining the club on Monday, shortstop Nick Urbanus drove in two of those eighth-inning RBIs on a single that started the Crawdads' scoring in the frame.

Chris Grayson, Trever Adams, Jeremy Williams and Jorge Alfaro also drove in one RBI each in the inning.

'Dads right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez improves to 4-2 on the mound. He allowed seven hits, one walk and no runs in his six innings on the mound. He also struck out seven Kannapolis batters.

Hickory and Kannapolis play game three of the series Wednesday at 12:05 p.m.
