Couple reviving State Cinema

Roger and Lisa McCoy in the process of closing a deal to purchase the State Cinema. While the specifics are still being negotiated, the family has taken over the reins of the old theater — cleaning up, fixing up and preparing the old cinema for a new era of local screening that will begin this weekend.

The McCoy family, which manages the Lyon Metal and Supply in Hickory and lives in Conover, has some big ideas for the theater that start with modernization.

“I’m going to try to bring things up to date,” Roger McCoy said. “At first, the biggest change is that it’s going to be a lot cleaner.”
