County programs receive national awards

A Catawba County program that feeds students and families in need received national accolades for its service to the community.

The Backpack Program for Children is one of two county programs to receive 2012 National Association of Counties Achievement Award honors. The county’s Green Vendor Fair was also named as a winner.

The Backpack Program, organized through Catawba County Department of Social Services, provides homeless and Free and Reduced Lunch students with backpacks filed with food for weekends and holidays.
