Cougars sweep Tigers in NWC basketball action

Tied late in the third quarter, the Lady Cougars of Alexander Central pulled ahead in the closing moments of the game and held off a late Foard surge to win 41-38 on Thursday.

Maddie Suddreth led Alexander Central (7-1, 2-0) with 22 points, while Marie Ritchie added 12 points.

Scoring a game-high 24 points was Foard’s Brooke Robinson. Teammate Chelsea Turner added 14 points for Foard (4-4, 0-2).

Racing out to a 14-6 lead early in the game, the Tigers struggled in the second and third quarters, falling behind and eventually losing to the Cougars.

Trailing 17-15 at halftime, Alexander Central (6-2, 2-0) scored 23 points in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

The Cougars received 15 points from post player Tyler Crouch, leading them in the win.

Brice Falgout scored 11 points for Foard (6-2, 0-2)
