Cougars Cage Bears

The Alexander Central Cougars defeated the Bunker Hill Bears 8-1 on Monday at Bunker Hill. The Bears dropped to 0-2-0 after the loss. Terry Aviles scored the lone goal for Bunker Hill in the first half on a shot from the right side of the field. Jeremy Whisnant scored two goals for Alex Central.

South Atlantic League
Hickory 6, Asheville 5
The Hickory Crawdads scored four runs with two outs to rally for a win Monday at Asheville. Jared Prince led the charge in the fourth inning with a two-run double scoring Travis Adair and Leury Garcia. Prince later scored on a wild pitch, and Zach Zaneski scored on an RBI single by Matt West.
Hickory won 6-5 after trailing Asheville 4-2 going into the top of the fourth inning. Greensboro scored an unearned run against pitcher Neil Ramirez in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Crawdads are now 5-1/2 games behind first-place Lakewood and a half game behind Greensboro for second place. The Crawdads have a 7-1/2 game lead over Greensboro in full-season standings.
Pitcher Joseph Ortiz tossed the final two innings Monday to earn the save and preserve the win for Ramirez.
Hickory and Asheville play a doubleheader at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday in Asheville.

Men’s soccer
Mario Ramirez scored three goals for the Trojans in a win Monday at North Lincoln. Ramirez scored his goals in the 20th, 22nd and 66th minute of the non-conference match, and Armando Rivera and Thomas Lunsford each scored one goal.

St. Stephens’ Cody Solesbee scored a go-ahead goal in the first half, and Osvaldo Loginos-Cruz scored in the second half to get the Indians a 2-1 win over the East Lincoln Mustangs. Andrew Zachrich and Ivan Santa-Cruz each had one assist in the win. Jon Holloway made five saves in goal for the Indians.
Roloando Miranda scored East Lincoln’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the second half.
