The Corner Table helping those who are in need

In the afternoons, The Corner Table in downtown Newton seems closed and deserted after accommodating between 115 and 215 guests for lunch between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

However, on such afternoons, after the hustle and bustle has died down, one would find Executive Director Summer Lee hard at work in a closet she’s converted to an office. Here, she takes stock of food items, fundraises capital and manages a rotating volunteer staff, among other responsibilities.

The Corner Table is a soup kitchen outreach ministry that provides nutritious meals in a comfortable environment for those in need in the Eastern Catawba County area. Since the organization’s inception in 2002, it has served more than 330,000 meals.
