Cops nab three on drug charges

January 26, 2012

Three Catawba County residents were among 21 arrested Thursday in the latest Lincoln County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) drug sting.

In coordination with the U.S. Marshal’s Office, LCSO launched “Operation 38 Special” early Thursday morning. Officers sought 38 wanted suspects in the area, and 21 were caught.

Three of the suspects have Catawba County addresses.

* Travis Santel Ramseur, 33, of 306 Kilborne Drive in Newton, is charged with possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; and sell and deliver marijuana. His bond is set at $20,000 secured.
* Sandy Lavandar Ray, 37, of 3323 Beal Road in Maiden, is charged with sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance and possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance. Her bond is set at $16,000 secured.
* Clayton James Waynick, 24, of 532 South Eighth Street in Maiden, is charged with possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; and sell and deliver heroin. His bond was set at $15,000 secured.
LCSO spokesman Larry Seagle said the operation started about 5:30 a.m., and the sheriff’s office arrested 21 suspects for various drug charges by about 1 p.m.
The operation may yield more arrests in coming days, as sheriff’s deputies will now use warrants to locate the other wanted suspects.

The operation targeted some of the area’s largest street-level drug dealers, and officers used undercover tactics as well as tips from the public to target offenders.

"Operation 38 Special" follows LCSO's “Operation Rolling 50,” which was conducted during summer 2011.

“The more roundups our agency conducts the harder it will be for law enforcement to identify possible drug dealers,” said LCSO Narcotics Lt. Jason Reid. “Therefore, the community can help us and help themselves by paying attention in their neighborhoods and notifying us of possible drug information. No tip is too large or too small.”
