Conover man charged in stabbing

October 31, 2011

A Conover man is in jail after authorities say he tried to kill a man with a box cutter early Saturday morning.

Authorities say one man stabbed another in the neck when an argument between the men escalated after midnight Saturday near the 2800 block of 12th Avenue Southeast in Hickory.

Hickory police say Andre Douglas Little, 42, of Conover, was arguing with an acquaintance at about 12:16 a.m. Saturday at the Ridgecrest Apartments when he stabbed the man in the neck.

Cleates Lineberger, 25, sustained injuries to his throat area and was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Hickory police say he was released from the hospital over the weekend.

Little, who left the scene after the stabbing, was found and arrested shortly thereafter at his home at 3041 Lee St. in Conover. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and is in the Catawba County Detention Center with his bail set at $75,000.

Hickory police did not comment as to what the argument was about, and police are still investigating the incident.
