The Conover City Council approved the 2013-14 fiscal budget Monday night after a public hearing.

One Conover resident, Candy Hess, spoke during the hearing and asked the city council members to place themselves in the shoes of the general public when they vote on the budget.

Hess questioned why Conover was increasing rates and fees for city services while some other municipalities in Catawba County haven’t. She also urged the council to cut   departmental “wish list” items to curb the rate increases on city tax payers.
