Commissioners approve $196M county budget

June 6, 2011

Catawba County Commissioners approved their $196 million fiscal year
2011-12 budget Monday, a 2.81 percent reduction from this year's
current plan.

Commissioners unanimously agreed to pass a budget that will lower the
property tax rate by one half cent to 53 cents per $100 of valuation.

The county's budget will impact about 34 jobs, including about 10
building inspector positions that will be eliminated. During the last
four years, reductions to the county budget have impacted about 100
positions.

The budget also eliminates fire alarm mutual aid payments to the 14
fire departments in Catawba County.
