Streetscape Meeting
The third Streetscape Project Public Input Meeting with Landscape Architect Allison Platt is Monday June 15th.
 The Streetscape Design Project is gathering steam, please join us to see what's going on and provide your input.
This meeting will present the preliminary Streetscape Master Plan and the preliminary North Newton Master Plan. There will be drawings of proposed layouts for the area around the Square including open space, and paving samples to view. 
The meeting will be at the new Firehouse, 119 South Brady Avenue, at 7pm on June 15th.

BBQ Fundraiser
Horizon Church at 316 Signal Hill Dr. in Statesville, NC will be holding its third annual Spring BBQ Pork Butt fundraiser to benefit the various ministries of the Church. Pork butts are $35 each, and the deadline to place an order is Monday, June 15. Each Cooked Pork Butt will weigh between 8 - 10 lbs and should be picked up from noon to 5 pm Friday, June 19th and from 9 am to 1 pm, Saturday, June 20th at Horizon Church at 316 Signal Hill Dr. in Statesville, NC. Please make all checks payable to Horizon Church in the amount of $35 for each Pork Butt ordered. GOP Women meeting
The Catawba County League of Republican Women will meet Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the Catawba Country Club at 11:30 a.m. The Speaker will be Catawba County Sheriff, Coy Reid. All are reminded to bring a can good for a local food pantry.
The Catawba County League of Republican Women meets monthly, on every third Tuesday, at the Catawba Country Club (1154 Country Club Road, Newton, 28658). The luncheon/meeting begins at 11:30 with the meeting at Noon. A Republican Speaker is featured monthly. The CCLRW belongs to the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women which is under the National Federation of Republican Women. Any Registered Republican Woman is invited to join and Republican Men are welcome to attend and to become Associate Members.

NCHS Reunion
The Newton-Conover High School class of 1948 will have its 67th class reunion at 12:30 at Boxcar Grill in Claremont. All the classmates and sprouses who went through school with this is are invited, whether you graduated or not. The spouses of classmates who have passed are also invited. The meeting will be dutch. ABC Server Training
Course content is geared toward managers and staff of any North Carolina business with ABC permits, but the public also is welcome to attend and learn about the state’s ABC laws and regulations.
The RASP training is a free two-hour workshop that provides participants with the most current information on alcohol laws and covers techniques for detecting underage and intoxicated patrons.

Newton City Council Meeting
Newton City Council will meet for its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council's Chambers at City Hall.

Observatory Hours
The Lucile Miller Observatory will be open twice in June for public observing. We will be open on the first and third Fridays, June 5 and June 19, 2015 from 8 until 11 p.m.  The observatory is located on the campus of Maiden Middle School (the old high school) in Maiden, North Carolina.  These are a free events, all ages and interests are welcome, and no reservations are needed. June 5 will be open rain or shine with an indoor presentation if needed. June 19 will be clear sky only with no indoor presentations. These events are sponsored by The Catawba Valley Astronomy Club.
