City unveils new website

June 27, 2011

City of Newton's new website's homepage.

The city of Newton recently unveiled its new website which features an easier design for easy navigation to learn more about the city, its departments and services.

Some highlights of the new website, still located at www.newtonnc.gov, include a printable calendar of events, a news scroll, share/print buttons, directions and a map of all City facilities, departmental information, downloadable documents, a “How Do I?” menu, community links and more.

Jason Clay, Information Systems director, has been diligently working with a team of city employees to develop the new website.

“The former website served its purpose well for five years, but we felt it was time to upgrade to a more progressive look and add new features,” Clay said. “Although we continue to make changes and add content, I believe that our residents, businesses, and visitors will find this new website to be a valuable tool.”

The city contracted with Revize Software Systems to help develop the template for the website, incorporating the City’s colors, landmarks and a patriotic theme. Using the Revize system, city employees have the ability to manage the site’s content; therefore, the webpages are more dynamic and ever-changing with new information.

Clay said that users will notice an abundance of hyperlinks and downloadable PDF documents that create a more interactive experience.

“I encourage citizens to visit the website to learn more about their city,” he said. “A lot of hard work has been put into this new site, and I hope the public finds it both informative and enjoyable.”

The city of Newton can be found at newtonnc.gov, along with its social media sites, including facebook.com/newtonnc, twitter.com/cityofnewtonnc, flickr.com/cityofnewtonnc, youtube.com/cityofnewtonnc and foursquare.com/cityofnewtonnc.

....did you notice on the "website" that we have an "Appearance Commission". Seems it meets the second Thursday of each month, when the moon is in the waxing phase and the chickens grow teeth deep in the bowells of Something called Zander's Coffee House" Well I have a couple of suggestions:
a. They meet in broad freakin daylight and take a walk or drive around the town and see the appearance from the points of first impression that a visitor takes when he comes to town.
b. They switch to decaf and clear the fog out of their minds and make some actual appearance improvement recommendations.
C. THEY MEET ON FREAKIN CIT PROPERTY THAT IS OPEN AND ACCESSABLE TO EVERY TAXPAYING CITIZEN IN THIS TOWN AND IN A FORMUM WHERE ITEMS OF INTEREST CAN BE STINKIN ADDRESSED!

SHEEZ, I NEED TO SWITCH TO DECAF ALSO!

I'd like to see an accounting of just how much it cost....

...this website? Also what is the yearly maintenance cost of the website!

I see some merit and value added, but with the current leadership's "devil may care" attitude towrds spending I am a very suspicious!
