City of Newton hires new PIO

November 30, 2012

The city of Newton has hired Julie Chang as the new Public Information Officer for the city of Newton.

Chang was previously worked for the Morganton News Herald for the past five years, with two years of covering governmental meetings, such as Burke County Commissioners and Morganton, Connelly Springs, Drexel, Hildebran, Valdese and Rutherford College council meetings.
“I’m excited to join the city of Newton’s team of great employees. I’m looking forward to meeting all city residents and employees and providing any information they may need,” Chang said. “And I hope I can help the city continue to grow economically while preserving its small town charm.”

City Manager Todd Clark said the new Public Information Officer met all of the qualifications he was seeking in a candidate. Clark said he was looking for someone with extensive experience writing news stories as well as someone capable of continuing efforts the City has made to communicate with the public through social media and video productions.
