Church bell dedicated

November 13, 2012

Holy Cross Lutheran Church dedicated a new church bell Sunday that replaced the one taken out of service in July.

Pastor Paul FitzPatrick said that the church discovered on July 8 that the bell in the Church’s Bell Tower had broken from its mounts and shattered when it fell.

“A bell tolls, calling people to worship. It is a beautiful sound that rings in a clear, quiet morning,” FitzPatrick said.

After discovery of the disaster the congregation of Holy Cross immediately met to determine what to do next. The oldest member of Holy Cross, Mr. Harold Sain, wanted a true bell to chime instead of an electronic replacement.

His daughter, living in Durham remembered a bell that was being stored for a church building project that never materialized.
