A philanthropic Newton couple who work together and share an interest in live theatre performed locally for the youngsters and adults of Newton and Catawba County are giving the community an early Christmas present of major proportion.

At the end of the workday Wednesday, Green Room board members and volunteer solicitors in the community theatre group’s capital campaign gathered around a square of tables in the lobby of the Old Post Office Playhouse on Courthouse Square, listening to the organization’s executive director, Sherry Butler, explain the urgent need for funds to meet an upcoming deadline.

At that moment Bob and Michele McCreary, who share in the ownership and operation of a successful regional furniture manufacturing business , walked into the structure which their generosity had helped to create several years ago.

Bob McCreary grinned, interrupted the strategy session and announced that the pair were giving the community an early Christmas gift.
