Children’s Advocacy holds vigil

The Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center will hold a vigil  Tuesday, Oct. 16 at noon on Union Square in downtown Hickory. The vigil is to remember the 24 children listed by the N.C. Child Fatality and Prevention Team as homicide victims by a parent or caregiver.

The annual vigil is held in October in remembrance of the children who died as a result of abuse and neglect. A bell rings as each child’s name, age and cause of death is read aloud. Simultaneous with the ringing of the bell, a T-shirt with the child’s name and age will be displayed for attendees to see.
