Child hit on motorcycle

July 11, 2012

A 12-year-old Vale girl was seriously injured when she rode her dirt bike into the road and was hit by an oncoming truck.

N.C. Trooper R.G Griffin said Christopher Wayne Randall, 42, of Cherryville was driving his 1999 GMC pick-up truck along Reepsville Road when the girl darted into his path.

"A young lady was on a motorcycle. She came out of a field into the roadway, crossing the roadway into the path of (Randall)," Griffin said, adding the 12-year-old was riding a 2000 Honda dirt bike. "Evidently she was crossing the road to go back to her grandmother's house."

Griffin said the girl was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center and was stable when she was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

"They were unable to fly due to the weather," he said.

Griffin could not reveal the name of the girl due to her age.

The accident happened about 2:32 p.m Tuesday near Reepsville Road's intersection with Ladybug Lane.

No charges will be filed in the accident, and Griffin said neither speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
